xAI's X Subscription bundles Grok, Cursor and X Premium from $8 to $200 a month, but Claude and GPT in Cursor now bill at API list price on top.

xAI announced the X Subscription on 12 October 2026: one plan covering Grok, Cursor and X Premium, sold directly by X Subscription Corp. It matters to anyone paying separately for SuperGrok, Cursor or X Premium, and to developers choosing a $200 AI plan now that ChatGPT Pro's usage is being cut.

What is in it

There are five individual tiers: Free, Plus at $8 a month, Premium at $30, Super at $100 and Ultra at $200. Usage scales against Plus: Premium is 4x, Super 15x and Ultra 50x. xAI says Premium bundles the benefits of SuperGrok, Cursor Pro and X Premium+, which it says were previously $90 a month combined.

All paid plans draw on one pool of usage shared across the Grok apps, the Grok tab on X and Cursor, and the allowance refreshes weekly. xAI says each plan includes at least twice the coding usage with Grok models of the comparable Cursor plan. Beyond the pool, users buy top-ups or wait for the refresh. Cursor's pricing page does not list top-up prices. Grok API access is included but billed separately at standard rates and does not draw from the pool.

For how xAI's previous top consumer tier priced its extra capacity, see SuperGrok Heavy $300 vs SuperGrok.

Claude and GPT in Cursor

This is the change developers should read closely. Plus is limited to Grok models. Premium and above keep third-party models in Cursor, but Cursor's pricing page says that usage "is not included in the monthly prices shown and must be purchased separately", at API list price, with spending caps. In practice, Claude and GPT usage in Cursor becomes pay-as-you-go on top of the subscription. Neither page says whether any third-party allowance is included first, and users on Cursor's forum asked without an answer.

Existing customers

Nothing changes automatically. Current SuperGrok, Cursor and X Premium subscribers can keep their plan, price and features, or switch from billing settings for a prorated refund of the old plan. The switch option was due to appear over the days after launch, and limited-time switching offers are promised. On Cursor's forum, current Cursor plan holders keep their included third-party usage until they switch. The old Cursor Ultra no longer takes new signups, and staff say the new Ultra is a different product. The sources do not say how Cursor Pro, Pro+ or SuperGrok Heavy map onto the new tiers, and no end date for old plans is given.

Teams get Premium, Super and Ultra at the same per-seat prices as individuals. xAI says that is cheaper per seat than the old Cursor Teams plan with 3x the coding usage. Enterprise gets one dashboard and one pool.

How Ultra compares at $200

All three cost $200 a month, but the usage multiples are measured against different base plans. Sources: xAI, Cursor, Anthropic, OpenAI Help Center.

The multiples are not comparable: each is relative to a different base plan (Plus on X and ChatGPT, Pro on Claude), and Claude's limit is per session. A bigger multiple on X does not mean more usage than a smaller one on another plan.

The ChatGPT Pro figures come from OpenAI's Help Center as summarised in our own ChatGPT Pro usage explainer. Grandfathering applies to anyone who held Pro $200 at any point from 22 September through 29 September 2026, who keeps the old allowance through 29 October. New sign-ups get the lower one from day one. Coverage of the announcement also reports a one-time grant of 62,500 usage credits, which OpenAI values at $2,500, for existing subscribers, expiring on 31 December 2026.

What to do

  • Do not switch on launch day if you rely on Claude or GPT in Cursor; model the API-list cost first.
  • Existing subscribers can wait: nothing is forced and old plans keep their features.
  • Check the refund proration and switch offer in billing settings before moving.
  • Cap third-party spend in Cursor.
